i bought this netbook to play online poker it is ideal for this use and easy to carry about -- good little netbook
Dont even try to remove the bottom casing to service fan and or replace harddiscs, theres no empty Memory slot so you have to buy 2GB Memory upgrade not 1GB, meant I couldnt use my last netbooks memory, impossible to remove bottom casing with extreme casing damage, very flimsy casing on screen makes it very easy to break screen, GLOSSY FINGER PRINT NIGHTMARE, Mirror Black scratches across EEEPC Logo before protection film was even removed, easy to mark etched casing, Very Poor Audio Sockets (one of mine was faulty missing an output channel, returned for refund) ULTRA THIN PSU Connector which was "bent" out of the box, be very careful with it. Had to get a refund. Replaced with a Samsung N510. Amazon offered no quibble full refund including special delivery postage, topmarks to Amazon. -- Very Poor Construction
Firstly, let me say that this was probably a one-off that got through the factory QA tests. The netbook is a lovely looking thing, with decent performance and excellent battery life.

Unfortunately we were dogged by errors from the outset. At first, I thought my wife may have done something to it! - perhaps a virus or malware had got through. But I checked, scanned, swept, tried doing a chk disk to look for errors or bad sectors - nothing. Sorry wife.

I finally realised it must be more serious when we tried to do a full image restore using the F9 key on start up. It only got so far then reported a corrupt file. Not to be outdone, I tried loading Windows 7 from an external source (once I discovered that the recovery disk would not work either.

It initially seemed OK, until finally crashing after 30 minutes of use.

All errors were unpredictable, ranging from blue screen errors, to system freezes, to uncommanded restarts. It became extremely frustrating.

I'm not sure what the problem was in the end - I guess perhaps a hard disk or controller failure. BIOS was updated, drivers updated just in case of conflicts (although the only peripheral was a mouse). I even bought 2Gb of memory in case it was the memory to blame. In the end, I had to admit defeat and return it.

One other point worth noting - Amazon customer care is fantastic. ASUS customer care and support is much inferior and should do better.

I'm now waiting for a refund so we can try again - we would actually have opted for an exchange if one had been in stock; as it is, we will need to go for another model, perhaps the N270.

I am also willing to give ASUS another try as the reviews and press have been very favourable about this particular model. But I'll also have that feeling in the pit of my stomach until it has performed flawlessly for a few weeks.

In summary, probably a one-off. Hats Off to Amazon support. ASUS support, you must try harder. And an extremely frustrating few weeks. -- Hardware Problems and a lot of Crashing and Freezing
